At the depth of
the last economic depression in 1991, Paul Russell left the world of
corporate Architecture to start Russell Associates. The practice
built on existing contacts in Central London whilst rapidly
establishing new contacts in the Greenwich area. After less than a
year in the almost obligatory bedroom in the attic, we moved to
offices in central Greenwich, and further expansion then
necessitated the move into the current offices.
An early
opportunity came with the complete refurbishment of the Grade 2
Listed Mitre public house and hotel in Greenwich Town Centre.
Following this, Russell Associates carried out a number of projects
on pubs and restaurants in Greenwich plus the Old Monk in
Houndsditch and a theatre refurbishment in Regents Park. We continue
to have a substantial amount of work in this field and have been
involved in all Greenwich Inc’s properties including the Bar du
Musee, Inc Bar, The Spread Eagle, Greenwich Park Bar and Grill and
the Powder Monkey, and most recently the Greenwich Brasserie and
Urban Inc in the 02 (dome).
Our domestic
work includes a significant number of major refurbishments of
existing houses and conversions, for example of churches into homes.
We have also worked on a number of substantial new houses, including
four notable examples on the exclusive Cator Estate in Blackheath,
which range in character from traditional to modern.
Russell
Associates increasingly specialise in mixed use and residential
infill developments, which are often on difficult Brownfield sites,
where careful negotiation is required with local Planners. |
